Discrete Function vs Continuous Function

If you’re dealing with mathematics and statistics, you should be aware of these terms to differentiate the quantitative set of data. There are two numerical data namely the continuous function and discrete function. Whenever you deal with mathematics, you should be familiar with these functions.

A data is referred to as a continuous function if the values pertaining to the data connote an infinite unit such as interval. You can measure the data in a quantitative unit such as time, speed, height, weight temperature and etc. It requires a graph, you will notice that they formed a line and every point is connected to each other. Its domain consisted of all the numbers forming an interval.

On the other hand, a data is referred to as a discrete function if the values connote a distinct and unconnected data. Unlike a continuous function, this mathematical method does not require a measuring device menu; you will manually count for the data. It is usually described using the prepositional phrase, “the number of” when you put the points on the graph, you will notice that only certain numbers fall on the line thus, it is also called as the scatter plot.
